August 2002
The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa blows away its three predecessors. It is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. This opaque ruby/purple-colored effort exhibits a sweet nose of blackberries, cassis, licorice, fennel, and vanilla. It is sweet, seamless, and full-bodied, with everything already fully integrated. It should be opulent and luxuriously fruity when released.

December 2003
A very fine effort, the deep ruby/purple-colored 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley reveals a big, resiny, spicy, clove-like bouquet backed up by serious black currant fruit, plenty of toasty oak, and a medium to full-bodied, structured, moderately-tannic finish. By this winery’s standards, the tannin is unusually noticeable, but it should soften over the next year or two. The 2001 should drink well for 12-14 years.91-94 points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

About the Winery Silver Oak Cellars
Entrepreneur Raymond Twomey Duncan first visited the Napa Valley in the late 1960s. Taken by the area’s rugged beauty, and the potential of its fledgling wine industry, he soon began purchasing orchards, pastures and vineyards throughout the Napa and Alexander Valleys.
Looking for an insider to advise him, Ray approached Justin Meyer in 1972, asking him to plant and manage his vineyards. Then a winemaker for the Christian Brothers, Justin agreed under one condition: In addition to growing grapes, he wanted to create a winery that would forever raise the standards of California wine. Silver Oak Cellars was born.
In 1972, Silver Oak’s Alexander Valley vineyards produced the harvest that would become our first Cabernet Sauvignon. Seven years later, grapes were harvested for their first Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, now produced as a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux varietals. From the beginning, these two wines have consistently represented the very best of their appellations, attracting a loyal following across the country and around the world.
About the Wine
The core of the Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the Soda Canyon vineyard, a marvelous hillside site with tightly spaced vines planted in rocky, well-drained soils. The lushly flavored wines from this vineyard provide a rich foundation for the Napa blend.
